Things to do in Bali with Kids

Travelling with kids can be hard. Looking for that perfect family friendly holiday destination that won’t break the bank can seem like a daunting task. Don’t mind travelling a little further afield for your vay-cay? Bali, with an array of kid-friendly accommodation, easy-going locals, plenty of food choices, and safe beaches, is a great option.

Located in Indonesia between the islands of Java to the west, and Lombok to the east, the short flight time from Australia to Bali makes it highly accessible for many families looking for a beachy getaway. Once you’re there, there are plenty of places that are perfect for the whole family to kick back and relax. We’ve rounded up some of our favourite things to do in Bali with kids!

Made's Warung Berawa

Made's Warung Berawa

Located in Kuta Utara, Bali, Made’s Warung Berawa (previously known as The Joglo) is a family-friendly Indonesian restaurant. Not only does this venue serve authentic Indonesian food, they also have a range of activities that’ll keep the little ones occupied while you relax.

The main feature is an outdoor playground which has been designed to Australian safety standards. There’s also a kids’ movie club on Friday evenings, and a range of kids’ activities on Saturday and Sunday like games, clowns, art and craft, and more.

The Green School Tour

The Green School was built in 2006 and opened its doors in 2008. Its tailor made bamboo campus is located among jungles and rice fields. The school features a curriculum focused on progressive and sustainable environmental practices, with the aim of empowering children to become green leaders of the future.

The Green School is open for guided tours, where parents and kids can spend a day learning about sustainability, permaculture, recycling, and more. There’s even a Balinese lunch option served at a permaculture farm close to the school.

The Berawa Art House

The Berawa Art House

The Berawa Art House is an art studio located in Canggu, Bali. The perfect option for giving the kids a break from the beach and a chance to get creative, the studio offers one-off workshops, as well as weekly drawing and painting classes.

Classes are available for both children and adults, with all materials supplied. Group sizes are intimate, with workshops tailored to classes of no more than 8.

For a bit of beach time, head to the Sundara Beach Club on Jimbaran Bay in South Kuta. The club is part of the Four Seasons Hotel, and offers an infinity pool as well as easy access to one of Bali’s most beautiful beaches with cabanas and day-beds available for rent.

Need a break and a cocktail? Supervision and games for children aged 4-12 years old are available at theJimba Kids Club, located a convenient 20 metres away from the resort. There’s also an extensive children’s food menu that’ll cater to all types of fussy eaters!

Waterbom Bali

Waterbom Bali is an award winning waterpark located in Kuta. Spend the day exploring the range of rides and attractions on offer nestled amongst lush tropical Balinese gardens. The park takes its environmental responsibilities seriously, and is also home to a number of native endangered species.

Waterbom adheres to international safety standards, and has also just taken out first place in the Tripadvisor Travellers choice for best water park in Asia!

Ceramics classes at Sari Api

Ceramics classes at Sari Api

If you find yourself in Ubud sampling everything the Balinese arts and crafts scene has to offer, why not stop in for some ceramics classes! Swiss expat Suzan Kohlik founded Sari Api, an open air ceramics studio in 1996. The school features 3 electric wheels and a large gas fired kiln.

Children’s drop in classes are every Saturday from 10.30am - 12 noon. The cost of a class includes all the materials needed and hibiscus lemonade to quench that potter’s thirst!
