The Singaporean dollar (SGD) came into circulation in 1967, with each dollar consisting of 100 cents. You might hear the dollar being affectionately referred to as ‘sing’ by the locals.
TThe 10,000 SGD note is currently the most valuable banknote in the world, although in 2014 Singapore stopped printing it, with the aim of taking it out of circulation. It is still legal tender, and will be until the last notes are returned to the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
You are likely to find a 10% service charge added to your bill in restaurants. If not, there is no general rule for how much you should leave – it’s really up to you and whatever you feel comfortable giving. Remember though: if you’re in an airport restaurant tipping isn’t typically allowed, whereas tipping in bars or taxis is very uncommon.
Frequently used banknotes
Notes are available to the value of 2 (violet), 5 (green), 10 (red), 50 (blue), 100 (orange), 1,000 (purple) and 10,000 (brown) SGD.
The latest series of coins are to the value of 5, 10, 20, and 50 cents, as well as one dollar. There are many of the old 1 cent coins in circulation, but these are no longer being issued. Given the very low value of 1 cent SGD (roughly the equivalent of 0.005 GBP), it is unlikely you will end up with one.

The idea of ordering money online was quite easy but I did not receive a notification when my cash was ready to collect and I had to follow up. The cash had bee delivered 2 days earlier than original planned which meant my post office was about to send it back. Thankfully they hadn't sent it back or else that could have caused major inconvenience when our trip is only a few days awayMishSimpson

I went online to the ultimate guide to…
I went online to the ultimate guide to travel money exchange Australia. The site "the Currency Shop" came up. After my own research, and reading their advice re commissions and fees charged by various money exchangers, I selected Travelex in the CBD. The Currency Shop included a better % rate deal "special offer" for selecting Travelex from their site. Travelex was easy to use via online purchase. No hidden commissions & fees and only a AUD$10 cost for the GPO to administer the exchange. As I was not travelling for the next fortnight I was directed to collect the foreign currency I had purchased within the next 5 business days at a place of my selection. I chose the main GPO Brisbane CBD. On the day for collection the staff @ the GPO were fast, efficient and friendly (as usual) and once I proved my ID, I was given the cash in OK denominations. I consider I got a good deal at a good rate of exchange and I am very happy. Yes I would recommend Travelex. The tips from "The Currency Shop" were also very helpful in making my decision as to how and where to purchase foreign currency when travelling to get the best possible rate deal e.g.in certain countries I was advised to carry AUD$ and exchange in that country for often better deals. Great to know. Thanks.KATHLEEN PHILLIPS
